To the devil those who dress in Prada! Most people don’t like fashionistas. For what ? Because in the doxa, we imagine that they are awkwardly nasty and undrinkable. But is this really the case?
It is a question old as the world … or at least, old in the world of fashionistas. The influential Loïc Prigent and Pam Boy already posed it a few months ago. And let’s face it, we all wondered at least once. In the cinema, fashion is often embodied by odious characters (see the devil dresses in Prada). But is this really the case? The editorial staff went to meet those who shape this world and sometimes undergo the weight of their passion.
Relations between superiors and subordinate are often the scene of this trivialized wickedness. Maïlys*, stylist assistant for female magazines, says: “Not all the stylists, but there are some who take you a little for shit when you are assistant. You’re going to do whatever they don’t want to do. For shootings, you take a huge number of clothes compared to what you will use “(up to 4 suitcases and 12 covers, editor’s note). “”And some stylists arrive, sit on a chair and look at you struggling. “
An experience that can quickly disgust the profession. Meggy, ex-stagoire marketing watchmaking-joillerie in a French house, says: “Humanly it was not going. After that, I no longer wanted to continue in marketing, in fashion, in this house. I had a co-stalker that was crying every day.“”
If some allow themselves so much wickedness, it is because they know that you will stay. The places are rare and expensive. And expectations quickly become unrealistic. Maïlys even neglected his health to honor a shoot … until I was unwell. Very sick, she struggles to breathe: “”The stylist I assisted was sitting drinking his coffee and I was choking on me. I was so tired that I spilled the steamer on me. “After a few hours, he launched him:” You will go home soon because otherwise you will contaminate us all.“She will take another three hours to leave. Outside, she calls the emergency room.” I arrived at home, I passed out in front of my door. “
Meggy had to miss part of her diploma ceremony, forced by her manager to stay at an event … to wear sets. But far from us the idea of making generalities: there are benevolent people and bad guys everywhere. “I know that this person is not a reflection of the industry. There are other managers who are not like that,” reassures Meggy. “”In fashion, urgency, the effervescence of the moment, the need for speed of execution can create a toxic universe.“”It is not fashion that makes mechant. It’s the pressure. “”But there are so many professional environments that can be. What makes the difference is people. “
Thank you to Maïlys, a freelance stylist, and to Meggy Pyaneeandee, Miss Île-de-France 2016, model and actress.
