Not very engaging at first glance, these offices were transformed by Laurie Aufschneider and Marie-Sophie Donnedieu, interior designers and founders of the August Architecture agency. Inspiring transformation.
It’s difficult to imagine yourself in an interior that brings back bad memories. However, this is the challenge that this young retiree had to take up: owner of an apartment on the 7th and top floor of an old building in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, she decided to take up residence there, after it had been rented for years. To finally feel at home there, she needed a radical transformation. Although this 35 m² space suffered from an aging and poorly optimized configuration, it had a rare asset: a well-exposed terrace, open to the sky.
To orchestrate this metamorphosis, she demonstrated great foresight by giving carte blanche to architects Laurie Aufschneider and Marie-Sophie Donnedieu, of the August Architecture agency. The result is stunning: thanks to a bold restructuring and tailor-made fittings, the living room seems to have grown its walls. Make way for light and assertive modernity.
As soon as you enter, there are narrow toilets on the left. Remaining in their juice, they hardly made you want to sit there. Here, as for the rest of the apartment, the August Architecture duo was able to identify the critical points upstream of the project. This anticipation paid off which allowed the project to proceed peacefully, without any unpleasant surprises.
After work, it’s time for renewal: the toilets are given a second lease of life. On a technical level, the column which cluttered the back of the room was hidden behind formwork, while maintaining discreet access for future interventions. A clever tip that allows you to obtain a perfectly straight wall, much more aesthetic. In terms of decor, the retro spirit is essential with an old-fashioned toilet flush and a compact toilet which optimizes space.
The hand basin, preserved for its good condition, has been enhanced with an elegant touch of black. On the floor, the pink and black cement tiles (Beauregard Studio) vibrate in perfect harmony with the strip of wall color, signed Blime Paint.
